Did you know that World Book Day is celebrated in April?! I’m pretty excited because reading was one of my favorite pastimes as a kid. But, adulting and my former workaholic lifestyle really pushed reading to a lower priority. Fortunately, reading is a priority again and I wanted to share how I’m finding time to read when busy.
Since I’m reading the books listed in my recent post, I definitely needed some strategy. My life is fairly busy even though I’m no longer in corporate. So, here is my daily reading schedule.
My Reading Schedule
First, I set a daily goal to read at least 15 pages each day. Real life can easily overtake any spare time. So, it’s a good idea to think about the time blocks that you can carve time out for yourself. Review your routine and find a few moments that actually belong to you each day.
- Morning: Reading a book for 30 minutes before starting the day. This is the quietest time for me. I write my daily gratitude list and then start reading a few pages.
- Afternoon: While eating lunch, I read a few more pages instead of scrolling through social media. This is an excellent time especially if you lunch alone!
- Evening: It’s pretty busy in my home around this time. However, things usually calm down after dinner – fortunately! I love to watch my fave channels on TV/Youtube before bed so some compromise was in order. I now read before bedtime to hit my daily page goal. THEN, I happily indulge in at least one of my shows before I get some shut eye. Compromise!
Start Small
By the way, you don’t have to aim for 15 pages per day. Everybody reads at different speeds and has different times of availability so feel free to find what works best for you!
You can start small and set a goal for however many pages you can actually do each day. Even if you miss a day, don’t double your daily goal. Just pick up where you left off and keep going.
Well, I hope these tips help you in finding time to read during your busy day.
Reading is not only essential but it can be a great form of self-care, too. Through books, we can learn, explore and even flex our imaginations. Enjoy the journey through your book and take in all that you’re being shown!
