It’s easy to get lost in the fun events of the Easter season. However, it’s important to put our remembrance on Jesus, the crucifixion and His death. In this post, I’m sharing Good Friday Bible Verses to reflect on in your quiet time or with your family.
Good Friday Scriptures to Reflect On:
When Jesus told His Disciples what was to come
“You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.” – Matthew 26:2
And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again. – Mark 8:31 ESV
The Lord’s Supper – Jesus and Disciples Celebrate the Passover
When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.” Matthew 26:20 NIV
Matthew 26:26-29:
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.
Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane
Mark 14:35-36 KJV:
And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
And he said,” Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.”
Jesus Was Mocked and Crucified
They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him. Matthew 27:27-31 NIV
And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him. – Mark 15:20 NIV
And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments. – Luke 23:34 ESV
Matthew 27:41 NIV:
In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
Jesus dies on the cross
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. – John 19:28 KJV
At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”) – Mark 15:33-34 NIV
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. – John 19:30 ESV
So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. – John 19:32-34 ESV
For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.” And again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.” John 19:36-37 ESV
Jesus is Buried
And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. – Mark 15:46 ESV
His love for us is undeniable and immeasurable
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. – John 3:16-17
Reflecting on Good Friday Bible Verses
God’s plan for our redemption, salvation and eternal life was fulfilled through Jesus. As you reflect during Good Friday, remember that you are loved. Also, we should have tremendous gratitude for this immense sacrifice that was made for salvation.
In all things, allow the Love of Christ to radiate from you and bless everyone you encounter.
Sending love to you on this holy day,
Nikki
