Why Using a Daily Gratitude List Can Be Helpful

I’m not sure if you have been feeling it, but the energy has been so heavy these last few months. I find that writing my list helps me to shake that mucky energy off and keeps me going. So, let me share why using a daily gratitude list can be helpful for you, too.

Daily Gratitude Lists:

1. Add to your positive self-care

Negativity is competing for our attention before we pull the covers off.

When you rise in the morning, your mind likely first thinks about your overloaded to do list, people at work that you dislike or whatever drama that you left pending before bed.

This sets you down a slippery slope and even coffee can’t fix it!

I consider the gratitude list to be an important part of morning self-care.

A blank sheet of paper/notebook, a pen/pencil, and less than 5 minutes of quiet time can help make a positive shift in our lives. It’s so simple.

Yet, many will still think of reasons WHY they can’t give even this little to their own self-care.

2. Make a positive shift in your day

Once I write down the 3 things that I am thankful for, I really feel a shift in the right direction.

I believe the gratitude list helps me to:

  • Keep things in perspective and reset my focus
  • Improve my attitude and mood
  • Stop negative self talk
  • Be more present
  • Shake off negative energy from others and/or myself
  • Stop taking on burdens that are not mine to bear
  • Count my blessings and be open to receive more blessings
  • Give thanks to God, my creator

And, that’s just a summary!

3. Flexible and easy to make it your own

It’s a great habit to add to your daily routine and it is pretty sustainable.

To be fair,  there are times when you do fall off routine due to a change in schedule or mornings just aren’t your thing.

Simply use whatever time of day works for you and jot down your list. It’s helpful whenever.

Since I wrote this post as soon as I woke up this morning, I’m going to share an example of my gratitude list for today:

Father God, thank you for another blessed day!
I am grateful for:
-my family and the opportunity to share my heart with others.
-how far I’ve come in this journey.
-those delicious pancakes that I will be eating shortly.

See? Simple and light, but that is just the way I do it.

Don’t limit yourself at all!

TIP: I also keep my older gratitude lists so I can review them when I need a quick dose of thankfulness.

Well, I’m up for the day, energized and so ready for breakfast pancakes!!

I hope this was helpful in showing why a daily gratitude list is worthwhile.
